How easy is this to use?

Very easy to use. You simply plug it into your vehicle's diagnostic socket (accessible inside the vehicle near the driver's area - if you cannot locate it, just ask us and we will advise).

Once you plug in, just press one button and the ECU-200 will start talking to your vehicle. If fault codes are present - simply note them and then reference them in the supplied fault code manual for their definition. Also read here for more details on the features and how to use this device.

How do I know what the fault code means?

The ECU-200 comes with a fault code manual for you to reference fault codes and see their definition.

Will my vehicle work with it?

The ECU-200 is OBD2 compatible meaning it is guaranteed to work with any make or model of petrol vehicle registered 2001 + and any diesel 2004+. However, it will also work with many makes and models before these dates. For example, it will work with many Ford models from 1995 onwards.

We provide the above compatibilty because vehicles after those dates had to work to a certain communication standard by law called OBD2 (EOBD).

Where do I plug into, I can't find my diagnostic socket?

Your diagnostic socket will be situated near the driver's area. Typically found under the dash or centre console (sometimes covered by a blanking plate). It is a 16 pin D-shaped socket. If you cannot find yours - please contact us and we will advise. You can see an example of the diagnostic socket here.

I've been told different cars have different connections - is this true?

Under OBD2 compatibility law the connection also has to be standard across all makes and models - using a 16 pin D shaped socket.
Some earlier makes of vehicle did use their own specific connectors but that was before OBD2 law.

I've been told you have to buy different readers for different cars - is this true?

Not with the ECU-200 because it covers ALL communication protocols under OBD2 law, including the latest CAN protocol which is becoming the set standard.
